Purpose
The goal of StrokEngine is to bridge the gap in knowledge translation between research findings and current clinical practice. This site can be used to find the most current information about the value of the various interventions used in stroke rehabilitation as well as psychometric and pragmatic properties of assessment tools used in stroke rehabilitation.
There is also e-learning, about best practices in stroke care and recovery:
- E-Aerobics: goal of enhancing physiotherapists’ knowledge and self-efficacy regarding application of AEROBICS guidelines in clinical practice
- Plus external links to other resources describe separately (iWalk Toolkit; ViaTherapy app).
Additional Information
Stroke Engine’s content is derived from multiple sources including the Evidence-Based Review of Stroke Rehabilitation (EBRSR) headed by Dr. Teasell in London, Ontario and extensive reviews of databases including MEDLINE, CINAHL, the Cochrane Library, HealthSTAR, Health and Psychosocial Instruments, CANCERLIT, PsycINFO. The goal is to provide best practice information, that is practice that is based on scientific evidence of its effectiveness. A dedicated team of senior researchers, graduate fellows and research assistants with expertise in specific areas also contribute to creating and evaluating the quality of each topic. After extensive review, each intervention is given a level of evidence, rating its effectiveness for different outcomes.
e-Aerobics contains four interactive, case-based e-learning modules based on AEROBICS guidelines. These were developed with input from content experts.
In “Links“, there are hyperlinks to the websites of other groups who have begun this type of information gathering on stroke practices. There are also links to online databases, which can be used to discover a wealth of information on various interventions.
